Grades come from two categories
- Formative Work (this category is where students do their learning)
- This is "daily practice" work and is counted as 20% of the overall grade.
- Any of the following classwork is considered formative.
- Warm-ups or Exit-tickets
- Notes (including: learning targets, essential questions, student-notes, and a daily summary)
- Notebooks are checked twice per unit.
- Students write a summary as homework in their notes.
- Daily assignments including worksheets, labs, presentations, etc...
- Unit review assignments (test preparation).
- Summative Work (this category is where students demonstrate their knowledge)
- This is an "assessment" and the work is counted as 80% of the overall grade.
- The following items are used as summative assessments each unit.
- Vocabulary Quiz 1 (first attempt at vocabulary and is taken in the middle of a unit)
- Vocabulary Quiz 2 (second attempt at vocabulary and is taken at the end of a unit)
- Test (this is a traditional test, taken at the end of a unit, with student-constructed answers)
- NOTE: all students can retake a quiz or a test after completing the following.
- Students who wish to retake a quiz/test must submit the "unit review assignment" before retaking the test
- Students who wish to retake a quiz/test must submit the "unit review assignment" before retaking the test
